Dr. Ruqiya Shama Tareen

A Leader in Holistic Psychiatry
Dr. Tareen’s interest in psychiatry began during her dermatology training, where she saw firsthand how emotional distress could manifest through the skin. That insight sparked a lifelong commitment to treating the mind-body connection with patient care, research, and innovation.
A double Board-Certified psychiatrist in General Psychiatry and Psychosomatic Medicine, Dr. Tareen’s expertise in medically complex and dynamic neuropsychiatric cases offers patients a unique perspective.
In addition to serving as Medical Director at Kalamazoo TMS & Behavioral Health, she is an Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry at Western Michigan University’s Homer D. Stryker School of Medicine. Dr. Tareen also proudly serves as President and Board Member of the Kalamazoo County Medical Society, which serves to promote the betterment of public health and the medical profession.
As an experienced psychiatrist, Dr. Tareen takes an avid interest in a broad spectrum of psychiatric issues, especially in areas such as women’s behavioral health, psychodermatology, and psychosomatic medicine. In an effort to offer relief to patients struggling with treatment-resistant symptoms, Dr. Tareen is a leading provider of innovative interventional treatments in the region. She is nationally and internationally recognized for her academic research and advocacy in women’s behavioral health, psychodermatology, and psychosomatic disorders.

With over 40 years of global experience in IT and business operations, Nisar Tareen is the steady force behind the clinic’s daily function and long-term growth. His interest in mental health administration grew from supporting Dr. Tareen’s work and seeing the impact of truly patient-centered psychiatric care. He’s committed to building a practice where innovation, trust, and human connection coexist.

Adult Geriatric Nurse Practitioner
Amy has been working at Kalamazoo TMS and Behavioral Health since 2019; she prioritizes establishing a comfortable, open environment where clients feel at ease. Amy will review medical and psychiatric history, discuss treatment goals, and explore different therapeutic options based on individual preferences. She encourages questions throughout the process to ensure a collaborative and supportive treatment experience.
Amy’s passion lies with working with geriatric patients and working towards quality of life measures. She also has specific interest in working with weight management concerns and how to integrate them into healthy lifestyle changes. Amy’s calm, charismatic approach is found by patients to be caring and empathetic while also knowledgeable about many different medical and mental health concerns.

Lauren graduated from Spring Arbor University after completing her undergraduate nursing degree at Western Michigan University She has a background in cardiopulmonary, intensive care, pediatrics, labor and delivery, and home care nursing, which guides her to encourage patients to care for their mental and physical health. She enjoys helping patients learn how to maximize both to ensure whole body wellness. She has a special interest in neurodevelopmental disorders and perinatal mood and anxiety disorders and helping new parents navigate the life change that comes with having a child.
